Anna Elyse's 'Nice Girl': Navigating Societal Expectations Through Poetic Music

Anna Elyse released her new single “Nice Girl” on June 14th. It’s personal and catches you off guard right from the start. The song begins with Elyse herself speaking, and it feels like she’s inviting you into her story. The piano chords are nostalgic and set an intimate mood.  The vulnerability and emotion are central to how the song has been put together. She sings about the crazy expectations society has for women. It’s raw and unfiltered, and it really makes you think.

The song is built around these piano chords, which let Anna’s voice shine as well. Her way of approaching the track captures all the frustration and confusion of dealing with societal pressures. She explains: “Nice Girl’’ is about the ridiculous standards that women are held to in society. We’re supposed to be ‘experienced virgins’ or strong leaders, but not bossy. It’s whiplash-inducing, so I wrote a song about it.’’ That pretty much sums up the whole song, highlighting the impossible expectations placed on women and the emotional difficulties it causes.

When you listen to Anna’s lyrics, it’s no surprise she has a poetic background in songwriting. She’s a singer, songwriter, and producer, and she gets inspired by legends like Neil Young. She mixes that classic lyrical depth with modern production vibes from people like No ID, Mike Dean, and Illangelo. It creates this unique sound that feels both timeless and fresh, perfect for anyone who loves detailed storytelling and rich, emotional musicPlus, her time at UCLA studying Creative Writing (Poetry) really shows in how well she captures emotions even the most complex ones and stories in her work.

After graduating from UCLA, Anna Elyse followed her passion for music to Audio Engineering School, and she found out she really loves being in the studio. This technical background lets her have full control over her sound, making sure every part of her music matches her artistic vision.  “Nice Girl” is a great example of her talent and dedication—it’s both deeply personal and relatable. As she keeps growing as an artist, we believe her way of exploring societal norms and her innovative musical style are going to make an impact on the folk-pop genre.
