‘Atmosphere’: Isabelle Perfall’s Musical Love Letter to Youth, Home, and Connection
Isabelle Perfall’s debut EP, Atmosphere, explores the emotions of what it means to be young and figure out relationships. She’s only 17, but her songwriting really gets all those messy layers of growing up and reconnecting with people. The first track, “Atmosphere,” is all about hoping to reconnect with someone important. The chords she uses are bright and inviting, with a gentle beat that pulls you in. The song feels like she’s opening a door for someone to come back into her life. Her voice is piercing and full of emotion, showcasing vulnerability but also giving hope—like she’s giving second chances a real shot.
Isabelle grew up in the middle of New York City with its crazy energy and creativity. As a result she’s very inspired by the city’s music scene. She’s been classically trained on piano for over ten years, so her songs often have this balance of technique, precision and emotion. Throughout Atmosphere, you can hear the classical background, with intricate melodies and thoughtful chords that underscore her songwriting. Her sound is a perfect mix of timeless and modern, bringing together the structure of classical training with the more personal vibe of indie pop.
Each song on the EP brings its own story and sound, capturing different facets of being a teenager. "Here With Me" is about ode to these close relationships that really shape who we are. Isabelle uses soft guitar strums as the main sound here, which gives it this warm and cozy vibe. By choosing guitar over piano—which is a choice that differs from the rest of the EP—she adds this extra layer of warmth that matches the song’s theme of love and care.
And then there’s “Close My Eyes,” which is a song dedicated to family and the communities that help us along the way. The song builds into a big and uplifting chorus. It’s like a bright and powerful love letter to her home and her roots. Isabelle’s hope, as she explains, is that her music can “strike a chord for every listener, each for a different reason.” Isabelle said she hopes her music connects with everyone in a personal way, and in Atmosphere she invites you to see bits of your own story in hers. Her debut feels both relatable and universal.
