Magz Releases New EP ‘This Won’t Be Pretty,’ A Showcase of Strength and Resilience

On October 4th, Magz, a New York City-based singer, songwriter, and producer dropped her new EP ‘This Won’t Be Pretty’. It’s only three tracks, but they’re all are strong singles. She mixes pop, alternative, and rock in a way that feels like it could have been made in any era. It really sounds timeless. What sets her apart is also how real she sounds. Her songs are personal and poetic, like she’s sharing her own story with us. It’s very relatable and listeners feel included as if they’re watching a movie. The EP is a collection of meaningful tracks, it’s short but has a lot of power to it. It feels both personal and universal.

The EP opens with “You First,” and it immediately feels like Magz is letting you in on this very personal conversation between her and her partner. The verses are intimate, and you're feeling a bit like you're overhearing something private. Then, the song just explodes with its dynamic hook with guitars going off. What's interesting about Magz is that her voice naturally takes space, she doesn't need to oversing, we can hear the natural power of her vocals even surrounded with imposing sounds. The melody gets stuck in your head and she commands attention in a way that makes this song really relatable.

"Sugar in Your Coffee" is such a vibe and it’s a little different from the first track—more of an alt-pop feel. Here, Magz plays with her vocal range as she hits higher notes with ease but she still keeping all the emotion. The catchy hook remains central, but the mood is different—lighter in some ways, but still meaningful. In here she shows how versatile she is both in terms of how she sings and the style of the song. Her artistry likes exploring different sounds and it’s still genuinely her.

The EP wraps up with “Disappoint Me,” a heartbreak anthem where Magz lets it all out. You can feel the frustration and the sadness coming across as she’s constanly being let down by someone. Her voice is pure raw combination of strength and vulnerability. The track is a fitting end to an EP that’s as emotionally charged as it is musically compelling. Even though it’s only three tracks, This Won’t Be Pretty” EP leaves a big impact. It’s proof that sometimes less really is more.
