Allyson Whitmell: A Captivating New Voice Releases UK Debut Single ‘Crack In My Window’

Canadian singer-songwriter Allyson Whitmell released her UK debut single, “Crack In My Window,” on January 17th through EMU Bands. Her music is this mix of pop, jazz, and musical theatre, with a cinematic touch that’s reminiscent of Sara Bareilles, Laufey, and Lizzy McAlpine. Her voice is also what makes her stand out, it’s intimate yet powerful, a perfect fit for moving storytelling combined with intricate piano arrangements.

“Crack In My Window” is a deeply personal and evocative song. It explores nostalgia, grief, and the gratitude that comes with saying goodbye to a place you’ve loved. Allyson wrote it after moving out of a home where a tiny, stubborn window refused to close properly. It’s quite a small thing but it became this powerful symbol of how even the little details can hold so much meaning. The track features a lush string arrangement, a solo violin brought to life by Jono Hill of Bridgerton and producer Ben Pelchat.

Allyson isn’t just a great songwriter, she’s also an amazingly skilled musician. She studied Piano Performance and Composition at the University of Toronto, graduating in 2023, and she even holds an Associate diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in both piano and voiceThat classical training shines all the way through in her music, giving her songs these rich, intricate arrangements that elevate her storytelling as she crafts entire musical experiences.

Currently, Allyson is further expanding her artistic and academic knowledge. She’s working on her Master’s in Applied Music and Health at the University of Toronto, specializing in Neurologic Music Therapy. She fundamentally understands and believes in the emotional power of music. “Crack In My Window” is a moving personal and universal experience. As she steps onto the UK music scene, Allyson Whitmell is a name that listeners should remember—her music is the kind that leaves a lasting impression.
