Charlotte Grayson’s Releases The Power-Pop ‘Get Outta My Yard’

Charlotte Grayson is back, and she's not playing nice. Two years after taking break, the Hartlepool singer-songwriter returns with "Get Outta My Yard",tongue-lashinghook-laden single that serves as the last word on her now-defunct band, The Shame Areas. It'strack created out of impulse—what was initially a quick studio test with producer Michael Kitching ended up being an impromptu full recording session. And voila, in four hours and a handful of takes, Charlotte had her goodbye present from The Shame Areas sealed and delivered.

Musically, "Get Outta My Yard" is vintage Charlotte: country, indie-pop, and rock in equal proportionstopped with a layer of wicked sarcasm. The song tells the all-too-common tale of a drunken admirer professing his love in the early hours, but Charlotte turns the tale on its head with biting words. “You’ll regret this in the morning when you’re sober,” she sings, delivering the line with the kind of effortless cool that makes her stand out in a sea of singer-songwriters. It’s a power-pop banger with swagger—tight, punchy, and hard to ignore.

In spite of the anthem-like energy of the song, Charlotte herself is changing. She’s embracing an acoustic solo format, back to small club nights and rediscovering the raw honesty that originally put her in the spotlight. "I spent two years chasing the indie scene, which isn't really me,"she admits. "Now it's just me, my guitar, and an audience that does pay attention." It's a homecoming of sorts for an artist who lives for authenticity, even as she unleashes one of her most full-throttle songs to date.

With a short run of acoustic shows on the horizon and "Get Outta My Yard" about to hit the airwaves, Charlotte Grayson is showing that she can straddle two worlds—powerful, full-band recordings and intimate, no-frills performances. Whether this latest release is any indicator, she's not merely getting people out of her yard—she'ushering in an entirely new audience.
