Eden Dawn's "Crossroads": A Playful Twist on Heartbreak
"Crossroads" weaves an unusual tale. It imagines the bizarre but oddly realistic scenario in which her ex and her partner's ex find each other. Eden chose to stay away from resentment to choose the ironicroad, matching heavy instrumentals with lyrics not meant to be taken too seriously. She recorded her track at Pirate Studios in Bristol. She mixed and mastered the track entirely by herself for the first time, a big accomplishment for he r which first of all showsher technical skills and also her signature lyrical dexterity.
Eden's tracks have been for the majority of them deeply introspective whereas this song is more lighthearted. “I’ve always been asked why I can’t write a happy song,” she says. “In a way, this is the happiest song I’ve written.” She found a new sense of creation which was liberating for her. She has a strong desire to do what's not necessarily expected of her and experiment with a more playful songwriting style.
In the process of becoming a real musician, Eden has taught herself how to be one during lockdown which shows her complete commitment to her art. "Crossroads" equals artistic freedom in a career defined by deeply personal storytelling. If this track is anything to go by, Eden’s trajectory is one worth following, as she continues to carve out a space that is entirely her own in the indie music landscape.
