Michellar’s ‘Dreaming’: A Retro Sound with a Modern Soul
Michellar's new song "Dreaming" is out, a combination of old and new. It is an honest reinterpretation of the 60s psychedelic rock sound but in a way that is still current today. We are completely immersed in the music with a dominant guitar riff that takes you to some sort of retro movie scene shot.
The instrumental recordings were done in the UK, and Michellar recorded her vocals at The Women's Audio Mission Recording studio, San Francisco. The process she chose to work with was quite different. The track mastering was done in the UK. Different techniques of recording were used and as a result she was able to achieve a natural sound.
Lyrically, "Dreaming" is extremely intimate and is largely an expression of Michellar's personal experience as a dreamer moving in a world where people ridicule dreamers. The song addresses the struggle it takes to maintain a single point of focus in terms of ambition when it's relentless pressure of the world as well as setbacks within. Getting cues from legendary Grace Slick, Michellar gives the song a distinct retro feel and makes the song emotionally as well as musically attractive.
Michellar often performs at open mic nights at The Riptide and Sea Level Studios in San Francisco. Her musical career has been described by her mother, in her own words she said: "If we never dream, we’ll never know what we could ever be." This is what “Dreaming” is all about.
