Ava Valianti Gets Real with New Single “Laugh Track”
"Laugh Track" explores themes of self-doubt, identity, and the constant pressure to perform. She draws imagery from The Truman Show and the self-proclaimed narrational avatar Ted Mosby of How I Met Your Mother. Ava sings about what it’s like to live with this type of pressure, she feels there's always someone watching her every move with people laughing at every little mistake she makes, like she’s a joke. This track is for anyone who’s ever had that feeling of being out of place, just going through the motions, playing a role you never really signed up for, just trying to make it through without falling apart.
Ava said she wrote "Laugh Track" to cope with having to perform all the time, even when there is no one around. She said she feels as though people are constantly watching her, as if she is living in a television show and her mistakes are merely part of a joke. This is how she pauses to think and asks herself tough questions: is she in charge of her life, or just playing a part? Her words echo through an entire generation who live with biased realities and understand how other people see them.
To celebrate the release, Ava performed at Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Square on April 5th. The venue is known for its friendly atmosphere and serious music fans which was the perfect place for people to experience "Laugh Track" live and some or iginal favorites. Whether you're a longtime listener or just new to her music, Ava Valianti is an artist to keep an eye on as she's one of indie pop's most compelling new voices.
