Chè Aimee Dorval Takes the Wheel with Empowering New Single 'Joyride'

Chè Aimee Dorval, indie artist from Vancouver, is back into the spotlight with her new release, “Joyride,” accompanied by a visually striking music video. Chè combines different styles—dark trip-hop beats, ethereal art-pop melodies, and relaxed electronic grooves. But emotive vocals are still the propelling force behind her work.

The track feels profoundly personal as well as universal. Chè reveals that “Joyride” was a slow-burning creation, developed over years and influenced by the turbulent political and cultural times. Something initially conceived as personal gradually became a song of resistance and self-empowerment. Her words challenge the tendency to shrink in the face of discomfort, particularly around issues of identity, boundaries, and the often unspoken requirement to be likeable. It's an unapologetic declaration of reclaiming space—and doing it with grace and fire.

To visually match the spirit of “Joyride,” Chè teamed up with dancer Joi Of Dance and director Kevin B. Smith to bring the single’s message to life. Joi’s performance in the video is an expression of strength, movement, and emotional release, precisely mirroring the song's theme. The choreography had previously been developed for a piece on The Crowned, but logistical challenges meant it went unreleased—until now. The outcome is a synergy of music and movement, with Joi's dance infusing the dynamic energy into Chè's sound.

With cinematic production and unapologetic honesty, Chè Aimee Dorval makes it clear she's not afraid to bust into new creative terrain without sacrificing her true self. The song captures a moment of transformation, calling people to find their own voices and shatter the expectations of politeness and conformity.
