Reflections and Rhythms: Eva Pagán’s “In The Mirror” Echoes Identity and Innovation

An artist being ‘reborn’ has an electric feeling to it. For “In The Mirror,” Eva Pagán is newly born—no longer Eva Westphal, but a name that beats with heritage and meaning. This is not only her debut single, but also something more—the first step towards reclaiming her identity. The Caribbean and neon dance floors collide in Eva’s song. She folds Puerto Rican beats into electro-pop and creates a sound that honors those women who came before her.

The song captures the essence of Eva herself—half in Spanish and half in English, it me lts from one language to another, something not many can do. It would fit perfectly amongst the chaotic glitz of a Charli XCX set or Emilia and TINI’s summer night magic. It is an exuberant explosion of genres turned into one and filled with glitter. A mix that would find a home in playlists called, “el nuevo Pop,” “Verano Forever,” and “All New Pop.” The story is captivating while the beat pulls you in, like trade gems for treasure.

Eva is not just an artist with a new name. She has over 100k TikTok followers and 50k on Instagram. That is enough to prove she has built a fanbase to showcase her voice, vision and talent. Winning awards in BMI’s John Lennon competition and Music Forward’s LGBTQ+ initiative show how intent and impactful her creations really are. Not many people can say they have headlined their own tour, sold-out NYC’s Baby’s All Right, and had their shows attended from the East Coast to London, all before the true beginning of a new phase in their life.

Each of her new songs is a new hint at her new self. “In the Mirror” is no exception. Each beat is a historical battle cry with intention that lies in the past while simultaneously defining future visions. With every note she presents the world an opportunity to not just look at but truly see themselves. There are moments when you do get to hear the mirror talk back and when it does, you don’t just see your reflection – you get to hear your name echoing back at you.
