The Art of Letting Go: Alison Martino’s Poetic Debut

There's a quality to Alison Martino's music that's got the feel of home, even when you can’t quite place where it is. It could be the way she speaks in a whisper of Jersey plains, the memory of a Baltimore night hidden away in a set of harmonies. But Martino, now based in Los Angeles, finds herself in a world of ever-shifting topographies, both geographical and psychological. Martino's first EP, released in June 2025, teams Martino up with producer/co-writer Yan Clermont to build a sonic veracity--warm, melancholic, a golden chain of indie folk, alternative indie, and americana genres woven together in a sincere tapestry. It's a music whose quality is to quietly make itself noticed, instead placing itself in the seat next to you.

The song “Put It All Down” shines brightly within it, a soft anthem for a restless spirit. It's a message to stop, to catch your breath, to forgive yourself for the messes, the mistakes. Martino encourages us to leave things behind, to unclinch our fists from those things we've held on to. The song vibrates nicely within the warm friendship it speaks of, the kind of relationship that can survive every season. It speaks of the essence of a long-time friend, someone who has watched you grow, watched every piece of you, and is still there. In the voice of Martino, it's easy to detect a relief intertwined within a message of thanks, like light seeping through leaves.

There's a timeless quality to Martino's writing, too, always looking back but never nostalgic to a fault. Her lyrics follow the contours of a life spent in transit, from small town New Jersey dreamer to Los Angeles storyteller, picking up pieces of herself along the way. Every song is like a message from a past version of herself, written to whosoever she's becoming next. And beneath the voice, the arrangements rise and fall in a swell, heavy on the strings, the chorale, and that intangible glitter floating between sadness and optimism.

In a world of noise, Alison Martino is making something quiet, and within the quiet, something brave. Alison’s music does not shout for attention, it listens. It encourages a recall of those people in our lives who are holding us up, to be the kind of friend we always wanted, to let go. There is a beat of authenticity running strong within every song, a message of growth needing not be loud to be true. In the soft pain of Alison Martino's music, we find the magic within where we are, the strength to let it all fall.
