Back to the 80s with Heart: Lynney Williamson Releases “I See You”
Glasgow's musical scene is always bringing fresh talent to the forefront with a voice of their own, and one such talent is Lynney Williamson. Her remix of her new single, “I See You,” is sure to bring her talent as a songwriter and a singer to the forefront. Her focus on personal stories, combined with a retro feel, ensures that her talents are on display in terms of emotion and energy.
The song was written by Lynney and recorded by her at home, using a walk-in cupboard as a makeshift recording room. The intro and outro samples were also made by her. The instrumental was produced by Myke, who she met through a TikTok radio station chat. The final mix was completed by Fumez, the label owner she works with. Together they put together a sound that is intended to be reminiscent of the 80’s cassette era.
For this track, Lynney was heavily influenced by her love for the 80s music and its whole synth vibe and magic. Taking inspiration from icons such as Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks, she sought to capture that feeling of hearing an 80s beat drop for the first time. She's managed to put together a track that's both nostalgic and original, as if entering she was a “musical memory” of 80s while still retaining her quirky personality.
Lynney wrote this song about her friend Donna, reflecting on her struggles with arthritis and the loss of her mother. The lyrics talk about not wanting to see the person “drown,” but despite the sad vibe in the song’s lyrics, there's still a sense of optimism, as it was written to be a danceable song for Donna to dance to, even from her chair.
