Kamakshi Khanna Releases EP ‘Heartbreak 2020’: A Journey Through Heartbreak and Hope

"Heartbreak 2020" was born out of ‘The Green Room Sessions,’ which is Kamakshi Khanna’s lockdown series featuring music videos from her bedroom studio. "Heartbreak 2020" digs into the theme of modern loneliness. Those intimate videos showed vulnerable moments and really connected with people with over 300,000 views on Youtube. Now with her EP, people get to hear those acoustic tracks turned into fully produced songs with amazing visuals featuring Kamakshi herself.

"Heartbreak 2020" is about the different situationships and relationships Kamakshi went through in her 20s. The EP touches on everything from awkward dates and mind games to short-term flings and unrequited love, but it ends on a hopeful note. The title is a clever wordplay on ‘Hindsight 2020,’ looking back at past events with more clarity. Each song shows honesty, they’re relatable and give lessons on love and heartbreak.

After her singles ‘Love Is Not A Fucking Game’ and ‘I Blew It!’ did so wellKamakshi’s new EP is a big deal for her. It’s been ten years since her debut EP, so this is a milestone. The songs make you feel all sorts of emotions, from the nervous excitement of a first crush in ‘I Blew It!’ to the strong anger of betrayal in ‘Love Is Not a Fucking Game,’ and finally to the bittersweet acceptance in ‘Tourist.’ With the title track, ‘Heartbreak 2020,’ everything all comes together, and it shows that every heartbreak, no matter how tough, gets you closer to what’s meant for you. It’s actually pretty hopeful.

Now if we go back to Kamakshi’s accomplishments, her first Hindi single, ‘Qareeb,’ came out in 2020 and was a big hit, getting over 1.8 million views on YouTube and a million streams on other platforms. It even won Rolling Stone India’s ‘Song of The Year’ award and got featured on Netflix India. She’s played at huge festivals like Lollapalooza India 2024 and NH7 Weekender, opened for artists like Sunidhi Chauhan and Lucky Ali, and performed with AR Rahman. Back in 2018, she did a solo tour in the US, hitting cities like New York, LA, and Austin. Kamakshi's range and growth really shine through in her music, which mixes pop, RnB/Soul, and folk, all highlighted by her soulful voice and heartfelt songwriting. She’s expanding on an international level, and we’re here for it.
