SIESKI: Vancouver's Rising Alt-Pop Sensation Releases New Single ‘Gumdrops’
SIESKI is a multi-hyphenate artist from Vancouver and she’s really making a name for herself, carving out a unique space in the world of alt-pop. She actually grew up in Vancouver but then went to Toronto to study acting at York University. That theatre background comes through in her music—there’s this dramatic and storytelling approach to what she does. She began her solo music career in 2019 with her EP called 'Dreamist,' and it was a dreamy introduction to her style. Since then, she’s been putting out more singles, each one just as whimsical and ethereal as the last.
SIESKI's music reflects who she is as a queer, multi-disciplinary artist. When she performs around Vancouver, it's like a full immersive experience. She self-produces and promotes her shows, and she makes a point of collaborating with women, gender-diverse artists, and the queer community. This inclusive approach connects with her audience. Because of her background in theatre and dance, she brings a lot of movement and storytelling to her performances, so every show feels unique in its own right.
SIESKI's music is a mix of dreamy alt-pop, with influences ranging from Radiohead and Sylvan Esso to the more experimental vibes of Kate Bush and Regina Spektor. She grew up around music since both her parents are musicians, and she started learning piano when she was really young, so she’s had a solid foundation from the start. Since 2021, SIESKI has been exploring nuanced alt-pop sounds, creating these hypnotic and innovative soundscapes. She’s often compared to Christine and the Queens, but at the same time she makes sure to stay true to herself and develop her own style, with airy vocals, layered synths, and textured beats.
