Aster Rhys Explores Fate and Spirituality in Captivating New Single 'Crossroads‘

Folk singer-songwriter Aster Rhys just dropped her new single, "Crossroads," which is the second track from her upcoming EP ‘Four Directions’. Her unique and deep voice takes center stage in this track which brings this melodic quality to it. ‘Crossroads’ is a spiritual song that explores and reflects on themes like fate, spirituality, and how unpredictable life can be. Her lyrics are poetic and there is this rich folk sound. Aster created music that helps you to take a moment and think about life.

"Crossroads" actually comes from a personal place for Aster. She was separated from her ex for a long time and she decided to take a road trip from Michigan to New Hampshire to meet up with them again. That trip ended up inspiring the whole song. While she was at Lake Erie, the lyrics started coming to her, and she used the imagery of the roadᅳlike the yellow and white linesᅳas a metaphor for how uncertain life can be and how every choice can change the direction we take. It's about all those moments where we're at a crossroads, not knowing what's next, not knowing what direction to take.

On a more spiritual level, "Crossroads" looks at the idea that crossroads are sacred in-between places where big decisions happen. Aster's lyrics bring in spiritual themes and ancient wisdom which suggest that fate plays a significant part in those key moments in life. The song helps you think about your own life and the moments that shaped it and who you are. This spiritual vibe adds to the mystery of the track.

Musically, "Crossroads" mixes classic folk sounds with a really rich blend of instruments like flutes, acoustic guitar, drums, bass, and even accordion. It gives the song this grounded, yet almost otherworldly feel that really matches the spirituality that the lyrics carry. If you’re into artists like Basia Bulat or Bat For Lashes, you’ll probably appreciate Aster’s style. With "Crossroads," she’s offering something that feels both emotional and thought-provoking.
