TE/MO’s TAROT EPs: A Spellbinding Journey Through Life’s Dualities
TE/MO, the enigmatic singer-songwriter from Chicago, just dropped her new EP TAROT, UPRIGHT & TAROT, REVERSED. Her first project, The MOTHER EP, was very personal and raw. This new project goes even deeper. She’s using tarot as the inspiration, and it’s all about these big life contrasts—like feeling powerful one minute and vulnerable the next, or going from success to heartbreak. It came out on October 10th, and it’s full of these dreamy, nice melodies and lyrics that really make you think.
TE/MO’s TAROT EPs were produced in LA, Philly, and Chicago, and she worked with JP Warner and Joey Chelius to create her signature mix of spooky pop with deep, thoughtful lyrics. Tracks like "SISTER ON FIRE" and "WITCH TRIAL" dig into societal and political issues, using these witchy, revolutionary vibes. They’re like anthems for standing strong and fighting back, especially against persecution and tough times. TE/MO’s music always feels like a reflection on both personal and bigger struggles, and with this project, she totally casts a spell over you.
With TAROT, UPRIGHT & TAROT, REVERSED, TE/MO has created a body of work that pushes boundaries and gets you thinking about your own life. The whole project is like this deep reflection on fate, free will, and the constant back-and-forth we all feel in life. TE/MO uses the tarot as a metaphor for the human experience. In these tracks, listeners will find a soundtrack for their own moments of self-discovery, heartbreak, and hope, as TE/MO created music that connects with people on so many levels.
The TAROT EPs bring to life two sides to everything—like every moment has an "upright" and a "reversed" version. The track called "DEVIL," is all about breaking free and feeling liberated, but then there’s "KING OF SWORDS" which is about betrayal. Each song has a ‘sister track’ that acts as the opposite. The same theme is explored but from a different angle. For example, "MY NAME" is about self-confidence and owning your power, while "CURSE" gets into feeling let down or betrayed. These sister-tracks complement one another. Together, these songs form a cohesive narrative, guiding listeners through a rich tapestry of emotions.
