Rough Roads, Ritz Dreams: The Unfiltered Voice of Anna Dahl
Beyond Madison, Wisconsin, in the rolling hills, a flame was lit long ago—a voice, a dream, a spark that never dimmed. That spark belongs to Anna Dahl, a Black Earth native whose own musical path has been anything but linear. From teenage dreams in Los Angeles recording studios to late-night nights finding equilibrium in family life in Madison, her tale is marked with grit and beauty. And now, with her Country Rock single "Take Me to the Ritz" released on July 18th, Anna stands front and center once more—but this time with the authority of lived-in wisdom and a voice that knows where it's been.
That moment arrived in November 2024 when Anna entered the legendary Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville—a studio where the spirits of Johnny Cash and Kacey Musgraves still linger in the walls. It was entering a temple," Anna recalls, her voice trembling in awe. There, with producer Don Miggs—who was brought to her attention through Kevin Martin of Candlebox—she was surrounded by the kind of people most musicians can only dream about: the best session players backing some of the largest hits that fill the country airwaves. But Anna didn't blend in. She stood out. Her music wasn't written—she felt it, lived it, and loved it.
"Take Me to the Ritz" is the anthem of the complex woman—the one who can stride from a bonfire in muddy boots as easily as she can drink champagne from silk sheets. It's about being real, about not denying the wild nights and the upscale morning routines. It's saucy, strong, and thick with twangy braggadocio. And under that catchy chorus and bold voice is Anna's higher calling: to remind people—especially women—that they don't have to be bound by someone else's definition. They can be all, all at the same time, and still shine brightly.
With her EP on the horizon for release and already making waves with her last single "Top Shelf," Anna Dahl is reclaiming her place in the spotlight—not just as a musician, but as a writer with a message. Her music reflects her life: fun, in-your-face, introspective, and grounded in reality. Whether she's raising glasses in self-respect or screaming her heart in the very recording studio where legends once took center stage before her, Anna's voice is inimitable. And when you ask what's next? She'll just smile and say, "BRING IT."
