Ava Valianti Blooms with Debut EP 'petunias'

But there is something so deeply timeless about the way that youth sounds on tape—soft and searching and full of light. 16-year-old songstress Ava Valianti has captured that incredibly well on her brand new EP,  'petunias,' which has an unassuming quality that unspools like a diary nestled among flower petals. Released on 24th of October, this release is full of truth—like a musical mosaic telling tales of growing up, taking apart, and then finding your place to rise up.

The title track, “petunias,” finds its subtle strength in the quiet observation that is the flower itself—overlooked, yet unstoppable. “Petunias are everywhere,” Ava muses herself one day, “but if you look really closely, they’re amazing.” It’s this feeling that becomes the pulse within the EP—that celebration of the minutiae that becomes something more radiant underneath the microscope. Whether from the wistful opening interlude "First Day of Spring" to the distant-turned-late-night pain that is “Running on Empty,”   Ava follows the passage of adolescence with the observation of a poet and the soul of an idealist. Favorites such as “Laugh Track" and "Buttercups" shine with bittersweet loveliness, while more current cuts such as “Hot Mess" penetrate the fog with the clarity that comes from within.

Critics have already taken notice; celebrating the rarity of her warmth in her recordings and declared Ava “a storyteller, a poet of the everyday.” True enough; Ava writes songs that don’t strive to capture spectacle but pinpoint glory within the minutiae. From her first hit song “bubble wrap” in 2023 to her current repertoire today, Ava has gained more accolades with her stage appearances with notable artists such as Jessica Baio and The Strumbellas to her credit; however, it’s her unique gift to tap the beat that talks that sets her apart.

As Ava Valianti gets set to celebrate her EP release party at The Red Room at Café 939 in Boston on November 22nd, she poised on the edge of something glorious. "petunias" is more than an album release; it is the essence of ‘coming-of-age’ stories captured in musical form—tender and brave all at the same time. In every note that she sings with such poignancy, there is hope that filters through the pain—the sunshine that seeps through the cracks. Much like the flower that her musical masterpiece is titled after, there is reminded the truth that ‘beauty has bloomed unnoticed’—right there in the spaces that are almost overlooked.
