Kazu Osumi Unveils Her Intimate New Single "Times of Love"
Kazu Osumi's new single, "Times of Love," unfurls from the nooks of Irvine and reaches toward the eternal. The song is one of memory, born from the legacy of and in honor of a fallen bandmate whose first group harmony will always linger in the form of a warm hum within Kazu’s soul. In a guitar sound that celebrates the effortless glide of Eric Clapton and John Mayer, the music intertwines this story of personal heritage as the weaving of a refrain that whispers its way through the air like the smell of something known and intimate. Each refrain leads you home to the same room you loved before, where the clock winds down just enough to catch a breath.
To create this musical nostalgia piece, Kazu also assembled a galaxy of collaborators who each contributed their own spark to the track. The session musicians from Musiversal injected their own warmth through the live music components of the track: the string and rhythmic elements that thrummed and pulsed through the music because they had the essence of being human themselves. Of particular note also would be the work of Jane Lui – better known to many as ‘Surrija,’ who also provides the musical background harmonies in the track that seem to ride through the music like the way the wind moves through the water. The contribution of the musician goes beyond harmony—the addition of emotions through the musical track makes the musical story of Kazu even deeper.
"Times of Love" signals the beginning of a gentle phase in the journey of artist Kazu Osumi. The previous singles had been venturing experimentally into unexplored zones of music. However, this particular single takes the route of serenity and authenticity. "Times of Love" has evergreen production quality and a quality that makes it appear as if the song has been written for the times of the listeners who will be accessing the song in the years to come. The song's lyrics ponder over the various shapes of love through the years. The song has been triggered by the simple but profound question of Surrija: "What is time?"
Recorded from distant home studios but collated together with an intimacy that passes the mileages of the music along effortlessly, "Times of Love" becomes the message that's intended to be preserved and relayed through the years. This message can best be described through the song's own description of the power of the song itself: "Time changes love – but never erases it.”
